"Prior restraint" censorship exists in several provinces in Canada, including Ontario. See the Theatres Act, 1980 as amened in 1984. The existence of prior-restraint censorship was recently challenged in Ontario but, having rescinded the decision of the Ontario Censor Board in the particular case, the Ontario Divisional Court declined to rule on the constitutionality of the legislation.
